HOW BROADBAND WIRELESS ERODES WIRED MARKETS: TO 2010

Cable companies and telcos have more to fear from wireless broadband than has generally been projected.

"Wireless broadband is going to erode fixed broadband faster than anticipated,” states Al Boschulte, Chairman of Boschulte Schnee Group, LLC, “The erosion will occur at an even faster pace than we’ve seen with the replacement of fixed lines by wireless for voice.” 

“To understand the process, you have to map the relative capabilities of the networks, their coverage and the applications they’re aiming for,” he added. “Wireless starts at a disadvantage in most categories when it comes to broadband, but it quickly makes up ground so that the erosion from fixed to wireless broadband will become serious in the 2008-09 timeframe.”
