RBOC'S AND ANTITRUST
The NY Times says that a private class action
antitrust suit against the RBOCs is, “The most important antitrust
case to reach the Supreme Court in 20 years.”
“The RBOCs are fighting to keep the plaintiffs’ bar away from their
door, or rather from their emails, files, confidential memos and the
like” states Victor Schnee, President of Boschulte Schnee Group.
LLC, and a former antitrust attorney. “With the help of the courts
and the FCC, the industry has undergone hyper consolidation led by
AT&T and Verizon.”
“If the plaintiffs’ bar gets discovery against the RBOCs – which is
what’s at stake in the Supreme Court – it could be a donnybrook,” he
added. “In any case, antitrust could be rearing its head again as a
persistent issue for the giant telcos.”
